Peer Gynt Stairs

This piece is about the musical exploration of a staircase. It relates notes in Edvard Grieg’s famous In the Hall of the Mountain King opening melody to steps in a staircase. In this case, stairs are meant to be descended by a pair of people stepping in unison. One set of stairs is for the horns, the other, the strings. The stairs mark time in eigth notes. According to the sheet music shown, specific steps are marked for notes (shown in red) that are played through nearby speakers.
